Where Did Evil Come From? – The Fall of Lucifer and the Origin of Rebellion

Before there was sin on Earth, there was rebellion in Heaven. Evil did not arise from darkness, but from light—when a created being, blessed with power and beauty, turned his heart against the One who made him. The mystery of iniquity began not in imperfection, but in pride.

Ezekiel 28:15“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”

Lucifer, the “light-bearer,” stood nearest the throne of God. His radiance was unmatched, his wisdom profound, his position exalted. Yet somewhere within that perfection, a seed of self-exaltation took root. What began as admiration of his own glory became envy toward the Creator Himself. Thus began the first deception—the lie that freedom could exist apart from obedience.

Isaiah 14:12–14“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God… I will be like the most High.”

The fall of Lucifer was not a sudden act of defiance—it was a gradual departure from humility, a turning inward that distorted love into pride. Heaven’s harmony was broken by self-centered ambition, and the first war began—not with weapons, but with words.

Evil did not originate in God’s design, but in the misuse of free will. The law of love was challenged by the spirit of rebellion, and the great controversy began—a cosmic struggle that continues until every heart decides whom it will serve.
